THAT is the kind of stuff I love in my books. The emotions were so high and intense sometimes, but they still made sense. Somehow the author managed to portray the complex emotions in a natural way and get me to sympathize with all the characters on all sides of the conflict. It went beyond cookie cutter emotions and obstacles and became a web of pain and anger and grief all interconnected with inner demons and the effects the past were having on the characters in their present situations. About halfway in, the characters, their problems, their relationships, and their emotions really started getting deep and rich and complicated. The first half of the book had more issues that I’ll get into below, but the further I got into the book, the harder it got to put down. So this is going to be longer and a little more rant-y than my usual reviews, but it’s not all bad, I promise. There were some things the author did incredibly well that really sucked me into the story and made it a worthwhile read, but there were some things that weren’t quite as well done and really bothered me. I have very conflicting feelings about this novel.

Throughout the Bible, there are verses that comfort, encourage and exhort us in our spiritual life. This precious evening time is perfect for a last-minute reflection on God's grace. Perhaps you have the bed invitingly turned down and are looking forward to the evening news or a good book. Activities for the day are winding down, and residents head back to their apartments or suites. As the sun slowly sets, the nearby mountain peaks gradually disappear into the twilight. Evening hours are always something special in Loveland, Colorado. Then her nephew Eric, wide-eyed and ashen-faced, whispers, 'Meg, something's wrong with Santa.' The local curmudgeon, whose beard and belly made him a natural for the role, has been murdered. Of course, getting all the camels, pipers, leapers, and drummers in order is proving every bit as difficult as Meg feared it would be. Meg has been volunteered to organize the parade, which is to proceed from her house to the local campus, where Santa will take up residence to hear the Christmas wishes of the town's children. There are also assorted Christmas-themed floats, a live nativity scene on a flatbed truck, the Three Wise Men on Caerphilly zoo camels, and Santa Claus in a bright red horse-drawn sleigh (eight reindeer were beyond the zoo's scope). The theme is 'The Twelve Days of Christmas,' and it features twelve drummers from the school marching band, eleven bagpipers, ten leaping lords costumed in medieval finery from the college drama department, etc. Meg and Michael's house is serving as the marshaling point for the annual Caerphilly Christmas parade. This book provides a detailed, updated exposition and defense of five of the historically most important (but in recent years largely neglected) philosophical proofs of God's existence: the Aristotelian, the Neo-Platonic, the Augustinian, the Thomistic, and the rationalist. It thereby serves as a refutation both of atheism and of the fideism that gives aid and comfort to atheism. Its aim is to vindicate the view of the greatest philosophers of the past- thinkers like Aristotle, Plotinus, Augustine, Aquinas, Leibniz, and many others - that the existence of God can be established with certainty by way of purely rational arguments. This work provides as ambitious and complete a defense of traditional natural theology as is currently in print. Finally, it answers at length all of the objections that have been leveled against these proofs. It also offers a thorough treatment of each of the key divine attributes - unity, simplicity, eternity, omnipotence, omniscience, perfect goodness, and so forth - showing that they must be possessed by the God whose existence is demonstrated by the proofs.
